Adelaide Football Club - Crows History Locker

Adelaide’s first AFLW squad of 27 players was selected across the last six months of 2016. Recruits from South Australia, Western Australia, the Northern Territory and other parts of the country combined to prepare for the inaugural 2017 AFLW season.

Below are their profiles, as written before the start of the first season.

Sarah Allan

DOB: 19/11/97

Height: 178cm

Club: Salisbury (SA)

Guernsey No: 39

A two-time Youth Girls All Australian, Allan represented the SA senior team in 2016. From Millicent in the South East, she is the daughter of former Central District SANFL player Keith Allan.

Heather Anderson

DOB: 29/7/94

Height: 168cm

Club: Waratah (NT)

Guernsey No: 19

An army medic, Anderson is originally from the ACT and was posted to Darwin last year after representing the Western Bulldogs in an exhibition game. Had a shoulder reconstruction in 2016.

Jasmine Anderson

DOB: 14/2/91

Height: 157cm

Club: Darwin Buffaloes (NT)

Guernsey No: 12

After a couple of seasons out of football to play soccer, Anderson was recruited by the Crows as a rookie. The sister of North Melbourne’s Jed Anderson and former Carlton defender Joe, Anderson has a young son.

Sophie Armitstead

DOB: 27/10/94

Height: 168cm

Club: Wanderers (NT)

Guernsey No: 16

Also a talented rugby and touch player, Armistead won the NTFL Women’s Rising Star Award in 2014/15. Is returning from a knee reconstruction.

Georgia Bevan

DOB: 11/6/93

Height: 161cm

Club: Morphettville Park (SA)

Guernsey No: 4

A former State softballer, Bevan has been a consistent performer at club and State level. Best on ground on Adelaide Oval in 2016 in an SA All Stars game.

Dayna Cox

DOB: 12/8/93

Height: 163cm

Club: Morphettville Park

Guernsey No: 31

Signed as a Free Agent, Cox is a senior premiership player at local level with Morphettville Park and has represented South Australia at senior level. Played primary school football alongside Crows draftee Deni Varnhagen.

Courtney Cramey

DOB: 28/11/85

Height: 169cm

Club: Morphettville Park (SA)

Guernsey No: 22

South Australia’s captain since 2011, Cramey has been a star on the local season for many years and been one of the few SA players to be recognised with selection in the Melbourne/Western Bulldogs exhibition games.

Angela Foley

DOB: 13/12/88

Height: 173cm

Club: Waratah (NT)

Guernsey No: 3

From Shepparton in country Victoria, Foley has played in premierships in her past four seasons. The PE teacher was part of Bendigo University’s first VWFL premiership. Foley then moved to Darwin, where she has played in three NT premierships with Waratahs and also won two association best-and- fairest medals. She represented Melbourne in exhibition games in 2016.

Kellie Gibson

DOB: 9/6/96

Height: 170cm

Club: Swan Districts (WA)

Guernsey No: 2

Signed by the Crows as a marquee player after moving to Adelaide from Perth to work for the SANFL in its community programs. A former Rugby 7s player who went to the Youth OIympics in 2014 and won a Gold Medal. Has played for Western Bulldogs and Melbourne in exhibition games since 2013.

Anne Hatchard

DOB: 7/3/98

Guernsey No: 33

Selected in the Youth Girls All Australian football side in 2016, Hatchard is also on the Adelaide Lightning roster for the WNBL.

Monique Hollick

DOB: 8/12/89

Height: 179cm

Club: Uni of NSW (NSW)

Guernsey No: 18

An elite runner and former boundary umpire, Hollick played for Sydney in a representative game in 2016 after only a few games of football. Moved to Adelaide for work. Daughter of former West Adelaide and Richmond player Greg Hollick.

Abbey Holmes

DOB: 7/1/91

Height: 170cm

Club: Waratah (NT)

Guernsey No: 1

Originally from South Australia, Holmes has starred in the Darwin competition in recent years and topped the NTFL competition’s goalkicking tally four times. First woman to kick more than 100 goals in a season.

Rachael Killian

DOB: 15/7/94

Height: 174cm

Club: West Adelaide

Guernsey No: 7

A former junior tennis star, Killian turned to football after a serious back injury and quickly developed into one of SA’s brightest prospects.

Ebony Marinoff

DOB: 15/11/97

Height: 169cm

Club: Morphettville Park (SA)

Guernsey No: 10

A senior premiership player at local level, Marinoff has represented South Australia at youth and senior level and played for Melbourne in the AFL All Stars women’s game late in the 2016 season. Adelaide’s first pick at the first AFL women’s draft.

Jenna McCormick

DOB: 17/9/94

Height: 170cm

Club: Coorparoo (Queensland)

Guernsey No: 5

Originally from Mt Gambier, McCormick is a talented sportswoman who has been playing soccer in Iceland. Adelaide United’s Lady Reds Player of the Year in 2014, she is now with Canberra United in the W-League. Played a game for the Brisbane Lions women’s team in 2016.

Rhiannon Metcalfe

DOB: 27/9/91

Height: 185cm

Club: Gungahlin Jets (ACT)

Guernsey No: 11

Has represented the Australian Defence Force women’s team and nominated to play for the Crows after being posted from the ACT to Adelaide with the navy.

Justine Mules

DOB: 15/12/94

Height: 162cm

Club: Morphettville Park (SA)

Guernsey No: 23

Was the rookie of the year in the SAWFL in 2014 and represented SA in games in 2016.

Lauren O’Shea

DOB: 7/7/84

Height: 177cm

Club: Waratah (NT)

Guernsey No: 21

A talented sportswoman, O’Shea has spent many years competing in netball, basketball, rowing and running, and took up football for the first time when she moved to Darwin from Victoria in 2012. The key defender and ruck is a four-time premiership player with Waratah Football Club.

Sarah Perkins

DOB: 26/7/93

Height: 173cm

Club: Eastern Devils (Vic)

Perkins, recruited as a free agent, was selected in the 2016 VWFL Team of the Year after she kicked 52 goals. The two-time Victorian Under-18 representative played for Melbourne in an AFL women’s exhibition game in 2016.

Erin Phillips

DOB: 19/5/85

Height: 173cm

Guernsey No: 13

A dual Olympian, Phillips plays professional basketball in the US for the Dallas Wings and is a member of the Australian Opals. She has an impressive resume including two WNBA titles, a world championship gold medal and an Olympic silver medal. The daughter of SA Football Hall of Fame inductee Greg Phillips.

Talia Radan

DOB: 9/5/88

Height: 179cm

Club: Belconnen (ACT)

Guernsey No: 6

Originally from Adelaide, Radan captained the NSW/ACT State side in 2016 and also represented the GWS Giants in an exhibition game.

Chelsea Randall

DOB: 14/6/91

Height: 173cm

Club: Swan Districts (WA)

Guernsey No: 26

One of Australia’s leading players, Randall was recruited by the Crows as one of their two marquee players. A two-time WAWFL best and fairest and three-time All Australian, she has represented Melbourne in exhibition games in the past four seasons. Working for the Crows Community team.

Sally Riley

DOB: 14/6/90

Height: 172cm

Guernsey No: 8

A teacher, Riley has played netball and football in Darwin. She starred for the NT v SA at Adelaide Oval in 2016. Named in the Crows leadership group.

Jess Sedunary

DOB: 11/11/91

Height: 168cm

Club: Morphettville Park (SA)

Guernsey No: 17

The personal trainer is a powerful midfielder who has been a strong performer with her Club and the State team.

Stevie-Lee Thompson

DOB: 23/2/92

Height: 169cm

Club: Wanderers (NT)

Guernsey No: 14

From Brisbane, Thompson had a touch football background before trying football in Darwin last season, when she was an instant success. Represented the NT in 2016.

Tayla Thorn

DOB: 31/5/98

Height: 174cm

Club: St Mary’s (NT)

Guernsey No: 15

Played in the AFL Youth Girls All Stars match in Melbourne this year and also represented the NT in its game against South Australia at Adelaide Oval.

Deni Varnhagen

DOB: 26/10/92

Height: 173cm

Club: Morphettville Park (SA)

Guernsey No: 9

Captained a boys’ primary school football side before reluctantly switching to soccer. Since returning to football Varnhagen has developed into a regular State player.
