Showdown history (AFL)
The rivalry between South Australia’s two AFL clubs is one of the biggest in the national competition.
The first AFL Showdown was played in 1997 but the antagonism started seven years earlier when the SANFL’s bid to enter a composite side in the AFL – in response to Port Adelaide’s secret earlier negotiations – was successful.
