Biography

Metcalfe emerged as one of the dominant rucks in the competition in the inaugural 2017 AFLW season when she played in the first Crows match and also the premiership win. Her leadership, resilience and competitiveness transferred seamlessly from the Australian Defence Force to the football field. She played all seven games in 2018 before suffering an ACL injury in Adelaide’s 2019 trial match and missed the 2019 premiership. Metcalfe returned in 2020 and played two matches, before featuring in nine games in 2021 including the Preliminary Final win against Melbourne and the Grand Final loss to Brisbane. The popular Crow was placed on Adelaide’s inactive list in Season Six due to work commitments with the ADF and then announced her retirement.

Originally from Nelson Bay in New South Wales, Metcalfe joined the Western Wolves in Sydney and then the Gungahlin Jets in Canberra. She decided to nominate for the inaugural AFL Women’s Draft and requested a posting to Adelaide so she could be drafted by the Crows.
