Biography

AFC Debut Game: Round 1 v GWS Giants, 2017

A dashing winger and a talented athlete, Deni Varnhagen played football consistently throughout her childhood and won a junior best-and-fairest with the Plympton FC boys’ team.

She then represented SA in softball and soccer before returning to football and winning three SAWFL premierships with Morphettville Park and representing SA. Skilful on both sides of the body, Adelaide swooped on Varnhagen with pick No.26 in the 2016 AFL Women’s Draft. Varnhagen played every one of Adelaide’s games in the first three years, including the two premierships. She won the club’s best defensive player award in the 2019 premiership year.

Varnhagen spent two years on the inactive list in which time she welcomed her daughter Hali. She returned to football in 2023 and played a further nine games across two seasons.
