Tom Gilligan, a raw 198cm ruckman, was drafted by the Crows at No. 13 in the 1996 draft and rushed into action early the next season. A series of injuries to Adelaide’s big men provided an opportunity to debut against Carlton then he played the next week in the first Showdown against Port Adelaide. He played one more AFL game mid-season but finished the year in the SANFL and then left the club, and the AFL, to return to Melbourne.
