Scott Hodges arrived having built a great reputation in the SANFL, where the Port Adelaide full-forward kicked a league record 153 goals on the way to winning the 1990 Magarey Medal. Hodges was restricted by injuries in 1991, although he still booted 30 goals in 13 games.
One year later he was the leading goalkicker with 48 goals from only 13 games, headlined by an 11-goal haul against Geelong. The arrival of Tony Modra limited Hodges’ opportunities and he left at the end of 1993. After continuing to kick bags of goals for Port in the SANFL, he was redrafted by the Crows for the 1996 season but only played two games for them despite kicking 102 goals in the SANFL.
Hodges was traded to Port to join its inaugural AFL list in 1997 but failed to break into the side.
