Playing 14 games in his first AFL season, 2009 draft pick Sam Shaw struggled with injury and his career ended after just 24 appearances. He spent his first two years in the SANFL and when the tall defender finally earned his debut in 2012 he quickly impressed in Adelaide’s backline.

Recurring hamstring injuries severely impacted his career and at the end of 2014 Shaw had surgery in the hopes of fixing his chronic hamstring issues. Unfortunately he only added two games to his tally in 2015 as concussion issues also plagued the promising player.

Due to the effects of concussion Shaw retired in 2016 but was redrafted as a rookie by the Crows to help assist in welfare management for the 2017 season.
