Sam Gibson enjoyed a successful career with North Melbourne before he received a second chance – or even a third chance – with Adelaide.

The Victorian was initially taken in the 2007 Rookie Draft by Hawthorn as a 20-year-old before the Hawks delisted him without playing a senior game. He found a new home with Box Hill in the VFL and several years later the Kangaroos picked him up as a 26-year-old rookie. Remarkably, following his 2012 debut in Round 12, Gibson played 130 consecutive games until North Melbourne delisted him in 2017.

Adelaide was quick to pounce, and although Gibson played just five games for the Crows, he offered an experienced body for the next generation of Crows in the SANFL. He retired in 2018.
