Injuries prevented Mitch McGovern from making his AFL debut in 2015, although he was able to show off his talent in the SANFL. In Round One of 2016 he finally played his first AFL game, and he remained in the team all season. Unfortunately a hamstring injury sidelined the forward for the start of 2017. When he returned the strong-marking and quick McGovern was a key cog in the forward line but he missed the grand final after suffering a hamstring injury during the finals.
Following the 2018 season, in which he played 12 games, McGovern was traded to Carlton.
