Lance Picioane, a former Victorian Metro under-16 captain and All Australian under-18, was picked by Adelaide with pick No. 17 at the 1997 national draft. He started his career in promising fashion, making his debut as a 17-year-old in the opening round of 1998; only Ben Hart has been younger on debut for the Club. Unfortunately, Picioane suffered a number of injuries during his time at West Lakes playing only 4 AFL games and was traded to Hawthorn at the end of 1999.He played a further 73 AFL games at Hawthorn and then North Melbourne and retired aged 25.
