Adelaide moved up the draft order to secure Lachlan Sholl in the fourth round of the 2018 AFL national draft.

The two-sided winger or half-back excelled in his final TAC Cup season with Calder Cannons, averaging 24.1 disposals, and also represented Vic Metro in the under-18 championships.

Sholl played every game of the 2019 SANFL season before making his AFL debut in Round 10 of the COVID-delayed 2020 season. A few weeks later, Sholl earned three Brownlow Medal votes in Adelaide’s win against Carlton, the club where his father Brett played 32 games. He had to wait another week to be nominated for the AFL Rising Star.

Sholl featured in 19 games in 2021, when he won a second Rising Star nomination and displayed his running power by covering a competition season-high 17.26 km while collecting 31 disposals in round four against North Melbourne.

He played the first ten games of 2022 in the AFL side but just one more game for the remainder of the season, then 16 games in 2023.

Sholl then enjoyed a career-best season in 2024, playing 20 games and averaging 21.6 disposals to finish tenth in the Club Champion voting. Sholl was rewarded with a two-year deal but after appearing in five games at the start of 2025 he did not play another AFL game for the Club. He was runner-up for the 2026 SANFL Club Champion medal but remained stuck on 79 AFL games and was not offered another contract.

Sholl also played 75 SANFL games for the Crows for a Club total of 154.
