Born on the last day of 1999, Jordon Butts was overlooked at his first AFL draft in 2017 but became a valuable pick-up for the Crows a year later.

The key defender was recruited from the Murray Bushrangers at the rookie draft with pick No 39, after showing development in the under-18 competition and also playing in a senior premiership with Shepparton in the Goulburn Valley League.

Butts had an impressive first year with Adelaide in the SANFL competition, finishing fourth in the best and fairest. He broke through to make his AFL debut against Geelong in round 13 of 2020 and played another game in the Round 17 win against Carlton. Butts made rapid progress the following season, taking on the game’s best tall forwards in 22 games and finishing ninth in the Club Champion votes.

Butts started the 2025 season in the SANFL but then showed some good form in the AFL until he suffered a collapsed lung against the Western Bulldogs in round 19 and spent several days recovering in a Melbourne hospital. After missing two games in concussion protocols, he later suffered calf and ankle injuries and did not get back into the AFL side after round 14.
