James Begley was a talented junior footballer with the Sturt Football Club and was named in the All Australian under-18 team in 1998. He was drafted by St Kilda with pick No. 22 that year and played 36 games for the Saints in an injury-hit four years. He returned to Adelaide through the 2002 National Draft with pick No. 68. Unfortunately, Begley was also plagued by injuries at the Crows and he retired at the end of the 2005 season after a third shoulder reconstruction.
