Drafted by West Coast from West Perth at the age of 22, Ian Downsborough played 20 games over his first two seasons. He was dropped during their finals squad after 19 games in 1996, and was signed by Port Adelaide for their inaugural season as a free agent. After one season and seven games, the forward/ruck was traded to Adelaide for Brett Chalmers. He spent two seasons at West Lakes.
