Fischer McAsey was taken by Adelaide Football Club as the #6 pick in the 2019 AFL Draft.
McAsey had earned All Australian honours playing in defence at the 2019 Under 18 Championships, where his clean hands, intercept marking and ability to read the game were highlights. He ranked No.1 for contested marks across the carnival and averaged 14.5 disposals and 6.5 marks per game to win Vic Metro’s MVP in a team featuring top draftees Matt Rowell and Noah Anderson.
He made his AFL debut in 2020 and played ten games, mainly in defence. But he was unable to break back into the Crows side in the following two seasons. McAsey played some solid SANFL games in 2022 but then chose to return to Melbourne and retired from the AFL in January, 2023.
McAsey’s father Chris played one League game for St Kilda in 1983.
