Himmelberg, originally from Wagga Wagga in NSW, moved to Queensland where he played NEAFL footy for Redland and represented the Allies in the 2016 Under-18s.

The tall forward was selected by Adelaide with pick 51 in the 2016 National Draft, a year after the Crows had bid on his brother Harry (who was then drafted by GWS). Himmelberg developed his game in the SANFL and his form earned him a late AFL debut in Round 23 2018 against Carlton, where he kicked his first goal. He showed glimpses of his talent at the highest level but struggled to lock down a regular AFL spot, playing 50 games including nine in 2024. He also played 86 SANFL games for the Crows.
