Much to the delight of Crows fans, the South Australian local returned to his home state in 2017, after playing 231 games for Carlton. In his junior years, Gibbs captained SA’s Under-16 team and played in the National Under-18 Championships, earning All Australian honours.

After his father Ross played 253 SANFL matches for Glenelg, Gibbs followed in his footsteps, winning the Under 17 Best and Fairest in 2004. Gibbs was selected with pick No. 1 in the 2006 National Draft and won Carlton’s best and fairest in 2014.

In 2017, Gibbs was traded to Adelaide where he played every game in his first season. Over the 2018 off-season, Gibbs married his long-term partner Lauren Tscharke. The pair have a son named Charlie.
