He commenced his league career in 1980 with West Adelaide, whom he joined from Renmark, and took a few seasons to find his feet. He won the reserve grade Magarey Medal despite in 1981. He played 56 SANFL games for West Adelaide over five seasons, highlighted by a five-goal performance in their 1983 premiership. After six years with Geelong in the VFL, Bruce Lindner returned to South Australia as a part of Adelaide’s first ever AFL team. .
In 1985 he was signed by Geelong where he played 66 games in six years. He was Geelong’s top goal-kicker in 1987 with 62 goals, earning him All Australian selection, which he also earned the following year.
He joined the Crows in 1991 for 19 games. Unfortunately, his time with the Crows was derailed by injuries and his career ended in 1993 after breaking his leg in four places following a trail bike accident.
