Biography

Adelaide’s first selection in the 2010 draft, Smith came to the Crows as a ready-made player from Henley and Woodville-West Torrens. The SA-local debuted in Round One, 2011 and his long-range goals quickly became a feature of his game. Alongside Rory Laird, he created one of the league’s top half-back duos.

He became an All Australian and earned a 22Under22 selection in 2014, after averaging 23 disposals per game and five rebound-50s. Smith played a key role in Adelaide’s grand final run in 2017, however his season ended with a heartbreaking ACL rupture in the qualifying final against GWS Giants.

Despite this, a meticulous approach to his rehab saw him return to the field just 317 days later in the SANFL, and soon after he was back in the heart of defence. Smith averaged a career-high 22.9 disposals per game in 2019, featuring in all 22 matches for the Crows.
