Originally from Port Adelaide in the SANFL, Brett Chalmers was first drafted by Richmond in 1989 but chose to stay in South Australia. He nominated for the 1992 draft and was selected by Collingwood at pick 10, until a draft tampering charge led to a $30,000 fine and a three-year ban from playing for the club. Chalmers was then traded to Adelaide. When Port joined the AFL in 1997 he stayed with the Crows for one year before switching to the Power’s AFL squad.
He played four seasons for the Adelaide Crows, then two seasons for the Port Adelaide Power, playing a total of 75 AFL games in his career.
