From Fish Creek, Barry Standfield became a regular with Footscray where he played 98 AFL games and kicked 38 goals over seven years. Hamstring problems restricted him to just three games in 1996 and he was traded to Adelaide.

The strongly-built key forward seemed an ideal recruit for the Crows when he booted five goals in the opening round of 1997 and a further five a month later. but lost his spot during the season and was an emergency on Grand Final day, missing out on Adelaide’s maiden premiership win.

When his form dipped not playing a senior game in 1998 he was delisted at the end of the season. He played for Sturt in the SANFL.
