The experienced defender made his AFL debut in 2008 after being drafted at number 27 from Victoria’s Oakleigh Chargers in 2007. Otten played two games in his first season with Adelaide before he finished second in the NAB Rising Star award in 2009 on the back of a consistent half-back role and 24 appearances. A popular and respected member of Adelaide’s playing group, Otten played 109 AFL games in a career highlighted by his versatility and team-first approach.

His first ACL rupture ruled him out of the 2010 season before returning to form the following season. Following a string of consistent years, his 2014 campaign was derailed by a second ACL injury. He was a beacon of positivity during his rehab, which included a year in the SANFL in 2016, and he finally returned to the AFL in 2017.

Nine years and 317 days after his AFL debut, Otten played his 100th game on April 28, 2018. In 2019, Otten spent most of the year in the SANFL, providing leadership to the youthful backline on the way to a preliminary final on Adelaide Oval. Otten retired at the end of the 2019 season.
