Andrew Payze, runner-up in the 1986 Magarey Medal, had long been a target for VFL clubs. The West Torrens wingman won a spot on the inaugural Crows list but played only 14 games over two seasons. He retired in 1998 after 304 SANFL games with West Torrens and Woodville-West Torrens. Payze took up a position on the Adelaide Football Club board in 2001 and retired from the position in 2017 as the club’s longest serving director.
