Recruited through the NSW AFL Scholarship program, Wollongong’s Aidan Riley quickly earned a reputation as a tough, tackling midfielder. His strong SANFL form with Sturt was rewarded with promotion to the senior list midway through 2011, followed by an AFL debut in the Round 19 Showdown.
Significant injuries hampered Riley’s rise, a broken hand sidelined him for much of 2012, before he suffered a sickening leg fracture. He moved to Melbourne as a delisted free agent at the end of 2013 and played 13 more AFL games in two seasons.
